We start our journey at Kings Cross Station, London.
Built in the 1850’s and sympathetically restored in 2005 and with the unique integration of modern architecture in 2012,
with an intricately designed steel roof by Arup Architects,
Kings Cross Station has become an iconic structure to visit and enjoy if and when in London.
Home to the famous 9 3/4 Platform from the successful Harry Potter films, Kings Cross Station
has proved to be a popular location not only for arrivals and departures but for fans and tourists to the Capital.
It is also home to the Eurostar. Britains link to France and the Mainland.
From here, the World becomes an overground canvas of exploration.
Just over two hours later we arrive in Paris, France.
(Surprisingly with only a short time spent in the Tunnel itself, giving an opportunity to enjoy the views throughout the journey aswell) –
There is a benefit taking the train instead of always flying!
Paris was a city I had visited a few times in the past, it was my intention to only spend a short time here.
So I took the opportunity to travel onwards to the beautiful wine region of Bordeaux which is on far left side of France towards the lower corner.
Greeted by a wet arrival, Bordeaux’s beautiful architecture and unique charm still couldn’t be washed off.
The architecture, limestone and intricate stone work of the old streets meant several hours could be lost just wandering.
With an abundance of fine food, inviting coffee shops and tables outside come rain or shine, Bordeaux was stunning!
…All we needed now was a blue sky, which was gradually beginning to show through.
Bordeaux is famous for it’s wines. This world renowned region of France is home to the local areas of Saint-Emilion, a Unesco Wold Heritage site, and Medoc.
Only a short drive from the outskirts of this famous City, the landscape is dotted with Chateaux in the midst of endless vineyards.
Each producing their own wine from their own mix of grapes, harvested at a perfect time for the fullest flavour.
It seemed only right to chase the blue sky and spend some time visiting some of these stunning places!
Onwards from Bordeaux the next destination spanned a long, overground journey across France to the city of Lyon. moving closer to the boarders of Italy and Switzerland.
Lyon is the perfect city to hop on a plane from Saint-Exupery Airport which will put you in touch with numerous global destinations.
It is also a perfect stop for a few days before heading to a colder region of France, The Alps.
As dawn broke, and the clouds dissipated, the City of Lyon revealed a crisp, blue sky.
Home to a Unesco World Heritage site, Lyon offers and abundance of history, culture, excellent food and plenty of rambling streets to explore.
Tucked behind these beautiful facades and wooden doorways, hide restaurants, coffee terraces,
private gardens with elevated views, museums, and ancient architecture to enjoy.
Spending only a few days here did not quite seem enough.
The journey continues onwards to the picturesque town of Chamonix in the Alps, close to the borders of both Italy and Switzerland.
After an early arrival, with the town of Chamonix almost to my self and all but a few birds clearing up the last of the crumbs, the early morning quickly began to wake.
Without wasting any time…
I dropped off my gear and headed straight to join the short queue (at the time) for the cable car.
The weather in the Alps can change quickly at any time so each run of blue sky was more of a window than a guarantee of a perfect weather day!
